Babies and children should be kept out of direct sunlight. When they are outside, we would recommend you use very high sun protection on your children so select from our SPF 50+ range.

We created LifeJacket to arrest the increase in male skin cancer. Our theory is that men avoid sun protection and one of the main reasons is that they don’t like the products currently available. So we developed high performance skincare and clothing to address men’s needs. The skincare is lightweight, non-greasy and rubs in easily through body hair. However, there’s absolutely no reason why women can’t use our products too. Despite our name, we love women just as much as men. We just think men need a bit more help!

On every skincare product page, there is a tab called ‘Technical’ where you can see each and every ingredient that goes into the product you’re interested in.

All our partners are major UK and German cosmetics suppliers.

Some of the filters used to provide the high level of sun protection in our sunscreen products are light yellow, by nature. This is true for most chemical sunscreens in the marketplace. Whilst we use a combination of different filters, there may be a small degree of staining on clothes which will be more noticeable (obviously) on white or cream clothing. This can be washed out with detergent, especially if treated quickly.

Yes. Our sunscreens are all broad spectrum, providing UVB protection (as determined by the SPF rating) and UVA protection (as determined by the European UVA symbol). If you’re more familiar with other UVA rating systems (like the star system), please click here to see how we score. As you might expect from LifeJacket, high performance is our mantra and we max out on all score metrics.

Ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun and other sources like tanning beds are the main cause of skin cancer. Over exposure can also cause sunburn, eye damage, and premature wrinkles. Covering your skin with clothing, sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30, and staying in the shade can help lower your risk.

Take the following steps to stay as safe as possible:

  • Wear clothing if possible: when out in the sun, wear clothing and a wide-brimmed hat to protect as much skin as possible.
  • Protect your eyes with sunglasses that block at least 99% of UV light.
  • Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30: Reapply at least every 2 hours, as well as after swimming or sweating.
  • Seek shade: Limit your direct exposure to the sun, especially between 10am-4pm, when UV rays are strongest.
  • Avoid tanning beds and sunlamps: both can cause serious long-term skin damage and contribute to skin cancer.

Within each product, we provide a suggested SPF guide to help you understand what to choose based on where you are, how long you are in the sun for and your skin type. You can also read here for our personal thoughts on which SPF to use.

We always think it’s better to be safe than sorry. If you’re outside constantly, for a sustained period of time, you should re-apply every two hours as a minimum. You should re-apply more frequently if sweating, swimming or towelling. In all other situations, follow the SPF guide here.

This is where most of us go wrong and burn. The correct dosage is 5ml (one teasspoon) per body part. To avoid any doubt, one body part is: one arm, one leg, the chest, back or head. The graphic on the back of our packaging should help.

Whilst our products have all been tested for water resistance, we don’t like to make a big noise about it. That’s because ‘water resistant’ does not mean ‘waterproof’ and people misinterpret both. Ultimately, if your skin gets wet, it’s probable that some of the sunscreen you’d put on will have worn off. We can’t be sure how much because we don’t know how your skin will respond to whatever you’ve been doing.  So, instead of making bold claims about waterproof protection, we prefer to guide you towards re-applying as soon after sweating, towelling or swimming. But if you do get caught out, or need water resistant protection for whatever you’re doing, the lab tests we carried on our products showed protection for up to 60 minutes after your skin becomes wet. We’d just prefer it if you didn’t wait that long and topped up sooner.

All of our skincare products are clinically and dermatologically tested and are all verified as suitable for sensitive skin. That means they’ve been tested on consenting humans under the supervision of a registered dermatologist. Furthermore we have had all of our SPF products tested under the stringent requirements of ISO 24442 and ISO 24443 which prove their efficacy in sun protection against both UVA and UVB rays. Our fabrics are also tested in recognised laboratories. All of our skincare and clothing products have passed the required European regulations so you can be 100% sure that your skin will be protected provided you follow our usage guidelines.

Performance is at the heart of what we do. Our sunscreen products use a combination of chemical and physical filters to achieve the results we wanted in a formulation that would encourage men to use them more regularly than they do now. All of our SPF products deliver 5* performance in respect of the widely recognised UK system but we are also proud of our performance across the equivalent classification systems from around the world. To learn more, read here.

Yes they are. Hawaii recently announced it has approved a measure to prevent the use of sunscreens containing two UV filters commonly used in sun protection products in response to a study that suggested they had a harmful impact on coral reefs. The two UV filters in question are Oxybenzone (described as Benzophenone-3 on European labels) and Octinoxate (described as Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate). None of our skincare products contain these two chemicals.

Our sunscreen products use a combination of chemical and physical filters to achieve the results we wanted in a formulation that would encourage men to use them more regularly than they do now. Suncare is (quite rightly) heavily regulated and within Europe there is a defined list of the UV filters that are allowed to be used in cosmetic products. This is covered under Annex VI of the EC regulation 1223/2009 and the filters on the list have extensive data available concerning their safety and use. This list also sets out permitted conditions of use and the maximum concentration of the filter in a cosmetic product.

Yes of course. Provided item hadn’t been haven’t been use. Please contact us and we will resoLve this you. Please contact us through live chat on our website, direct message on Facebook/Instagram or send an email to hello@lifejacketsunprotection.com.

Both fabrics are SPF50+ to protect you when you’re outside. Both fabrics are moisture wicking. Both t-shirts have the same cut and shape. The sports t-shirt is more like a traditional gym t-shirt in terms of fabric and feel. It also has a large LifeJacket paint logo printed on the back. The active t-shirt is more like a normal cotton t-shirt in terms of feel with some subtle LifeJacket design elements.
